RESURRECTION OF THE BOHR/SOMMERFELD THEORY OF ATOMIC STRUCTURE The links below are to the Sections of the paper on the mechanical aspects of electron spin as extant within this resurrected theory. The major considerations are the cause of electron spin, the quantisation of electron spin and the detailed development of the electron transition Selection Rules. |
| Introduction - The first section contains a title page, a brief abstract, and the main introduction containing the the objectives and a general description of the contents of the paper.
The Characterisation of Electron Spin - The second section provides a short dissertation on the necessity for the spin of a real electron particle as purported in this theory. Following is a proposed cause of electron spin based upon the Lorentz-Fitzgerald contraction of the electron due to its high orbital velocity. This is also analysed to determine the effects of this mechanism on the principle orbital quantum number. Also the effects of the relativistic increase in mass of the electron due to its high spin rate are also discussed. The Quantisation of Electron Spin. - This section primarily deals with the quantisation of electron spin. Because the spin motion is purported to be completely independent of the orbital, the spin quantum number is treated as a principle quantum number in its own right which contributes to the determination of its unique value. A proposed photon emission mechanism is also discussed. Basic Electron Transition Geometry and the Selection Rules - The fourth Section provides for a detailed determination of the Selection Rules governing electron orbit shell/orbital transitions. This is conducted in concert with a brief dissertation on basic electron transition geometry. Conclusions - The results of all aspects of the paper are reviewed Appendix A - The Appendix provides a description of Appendix A. |
